Suoi Da eco-tourist site is located at Tan Hai Commune, Tan Thanh District in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province just 80 kilometers from HCMC. It is a nice spot that not many people know about except local people and Buddhists who voyage to pagodas near the stream. Suoi Da has five small lakes at different heights but the fifth lake is the most popular as it is spacious and has the most beautiful view. The site has numerous spectacular waterfalls falling down from heights of hundreds of meters. Along the lakes and waterfalls are huge flat rocks under the shade of trees so tourists can enjoy a barbecue or swim under the cool and pure water or let loose their mind whilst listening to the rhythm of wooden bells and prayers echoing from pagodas.

There’s a big enough road for motorcycles and cars to get to the foot of the 491-meter Dinh Mountain. On arrival, travelers can park their vehicles and walk on the hundreds of sloppy, rocky steps to discover the five lakes. If tourists have more time, they can discover a pagoda on the top of the mountain which is sacred to Buddhists.

It is recommended that you visit the stream during summer or the rainy season from June as it is cooler and has more water falling from the waterfalls. Tourists are advised to wear sandals or waterproof shoes to protect their feet from sharp and slippery rocks.

According to an initial investigation, there was a fight between two groups of security guards at the Blue Moon club and the Ngoc Lan karaoke parlor on Nguyen Truong To Street.

At 1am, the two groups met at a beer stand on the pavement near Thuy Van Street. After getting drunk, the men picked up chairs and tables to beat each other before they were asked to leave
Later, the staff from Ngoc Lan karaoke parlor arrived at Blue Moon club and wanted to fight again.

Vo Van Dieu (23), who worked at the karaoke parlor, took out a knife and threatened to kill people at the club.

But before he was able to carry out his threat, Le Phuoc Dong (31), one of the security guards at the club, approached Dieu and stabbed him.

Dieu was rushed to the hospital, but he died on the way.

After the accident, Vung Tau police identified the murderer and requested Dong to turn himself in.

At 6am, Dong was taken by his sister to the police station, where he confessed to his crime.

Klaus Vikkelsoe, general director of Mermaid Maritime Vietnam JSC, said that with the newly opened office and workshop, the company would provide quality services of lifesaving appliances, firefighting equipment and other safety equipment for the shipping industry and the offshore industry (oil and gas) in Vietnam.

“Our safety services are all regulated by IMO (International Maritime Organization) under the United Nations,” he said.

Seeing a clear need in the Vietnamese market for certified and approved services for both local and international operators, the founders, led by Jorgen Lundbaek, decided to establish the company in Vung Tau in 2004 using their long experience in Thailand.

“Mermaid is today the only company in Vietnam who holds all major manufacturers approvals as well as most of the recognized Classification Societies under IACS (International Association of Classification Societies Ltd.) and we do therefore see ourselves as a leader and trendsetter within the safety service market in Vietnam,” Vikkelsoe said.

The experience within provision of logistic solutions and support functions for the offshore industry which among others comprises Indoor Warehousing & Outdoor Storage, Mixing & Transloading & Storage of Chemicals, Operating own Tank Plants, Pipe Yard, Procurement Service, Stock Control and Waste handling, is under transfer to Mermaid Maritime Vietnam JSC.

Over the past two decades, Vung Tau has become a modern and dynamic city with a strongly developed economic structure for services and tourism.

The city achieved an average annual income of about US$6000 per-capita (excluding income from oil and gas) in 2010, nearly eleven times greater than in 1992.

As of May, 2011, the city was home to 92 foreign invested projects with a total registered capital of US$7.6 billion and 60 projects funded by domestic enterprises with total registered capital of VND 27.9 billion (around US$1.3 million).

Living standards in the city have been considerably improved and the number of poor households has been reduced by 0.03%.

Addressing the anniversary ceremony, Le Xuan Tuoi, member of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau provincial Party Standing Committee and Secretary of the Vung Tau city Party Committee, affirmed that the municipal authorities will continue reform their leadership and Party building to make Vung Tau a first-class green, clean, beautiful and civilised tourism city by 2015, as targeted in the 5th City Party Congress Resolution.

A programme of art performances was held last night as part of the celebrations, featuring songs and dances praising the city and its people as well as the country of Vietnam.
